MNC Offering Higher Packages to M.Tech Students

Eventually whenever I say “I want to do M Tech”, then suddenly the other person asks “Why? Do you want to be a teacher?” This kind of Questions I faced and got much unexpected response in the name of higher studies as if one is of no use. How many of you have faced the same? Well! I wander how society can think about the tag of ‘Masters’ as if the candidate is below average if he/she is thinking is going for the same. I guess the value and importance of M Tech is quite lower in our society and hence the value of education. Do we really need to promote the same? Is only teaching career possible after M Tech? Well! We need to grow up if this is the case. M Tech degree holder can pursue PHD which MBA holder cannot. Masters (for IIT) do not need any sought of experience which MBA (for IIM) need. M Tech entertains much better job profiles than B Tech. Bachelors are involved in activities like those of coding, searching Google and copy pasting the code, system testing, documentation work of typing and preparing reports etc.. Just think you are coder and any MNC has 1000’s of coders and you are one among 1000’s. Master can go for much better profile including preparing new ideas and presentations, managerial level in terms of designing and maintenance. Maintenance is the most important and interesting job profile as you will get a lot to learn due to implementation of new technologies. Masters sets the best eligibility criteria for lecturer-ship in any of the government college with the starting pay scale of 30,000 to 40,000 per month.

Lecturer-ship job is much peaceful than the company job. Fixed timing from 10 to 4 will do and moreover with development of new technologies, you will get a lot to learn. But private sector job is quite hectic. In PSU’s or government sector company job, you may get fixed timings of 10 to 4 but won’t get much growth in your core field especially in CSE/IT. Note that if you are Bachelors, then your increment will be but obvious less than that of increment of Masters. Finally you can analyze your salary package after 10 years. Follow standard textbooks referred by your faculties.

Read the concepts to the depth, visualize and then understand.

Imagine how and where they could be helpful and could be applied practically.

Exercise problems which are given at the end of each chapter of your textbook should be solved analytically.  Don't spend your precious time solving too many questions. Contrary you should target questions that could be helpful only for your GATE preparation.

Reading two different subjects simultaneously is recommended as it would boost a sense of closeness towards your target and you won't feel bored too. 

As we know GATE is a multiple choice examination throw yourself into the habit of solving relevant objective questions rapidly, right after you finish studying a particular subject. Solving previous year GATE question papers would let you know where you stand. Group discussions are another way of promoting your self esteem. 

Read the subject by posing questions like " What " , " How " and " Why ". Don't take anything for granted unless you justify it by working out on papers.

 

Think Positive

Never worry if you performance in university examination is unsatisfactory, as your university percentage has nothing to do with your GATE score. GATE is entirely a different journey.

M. Tech/ME - The Course
	In India, a Master of Engineering (ME) or Master of Technology (M. Tech) degree is a postgraduate program in engineering or technology. This is a 2-years program in a specific branch of engineering or a technical field. Generally a student enters the ME/MTech programs after the completion of the 4-year undergraduate program in engineering after being certified a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology degree, or a 5-year program in Science or Applied Sciences resulting in the award of a Master of Science degree. This is a course of 2 years span, having 4 semesters.
Minimum Requirements for M.Tech.
	Candidates having valid GATE score and Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture, or Master's degree in Mathematics / Physics / Life Science / related subjects, or Candidates yet to appear in the final examination for the above qualifying degree [(i) or (ii)] and whose results are likely to be declared by July, 2010,or Associate Membership holders of the professional bodies for admission into their parent disciplines from the following: The Institution of Engineers (India) (AMIE) The Aeronautical Society of India (AESI) (eligible only for aerodynamics, structures and propulsions streams) The Indian Institute of Metals (AMIIM) The Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, including Polymer and Environmental Group (AMIIChemE) The Institution of Electronics and Tele-communication Engineering (AMIETE)

	Try to clear your concepts by solving questions.
	Refer the GATE syllabus and study topic by topic and then solve objective questions.
	Develop the art of adopting tricks for solving objective questions.
	Solve previous years GATE questions. Analyze and solve questions from different concept, which would enable you to learn new concepts.
	Solve questions from related topics form other subject of GATE papers and IES questions.
	Cover every topic so that at least you can attempt easy questions.
	Keep your formula list ready so that you can go for quick revision before the actual exam.
Don’ts
	Don’t read too many books only refer reference books.
	Don’t believe in Indian publisher's books, as there are very few good books in market.
	Don’t spend much time in reading theories, try to build concept only, as concept is the king in GATE.
	Don’t leave any topic; try to cover every topic as it would help to solve at least easy questions.
	Don’t refer too many book for solving objective question, rather you solve questions from GATE and IES.
	Don’t solve many questions, solve only quality questions.
	Don’t ignore Mathematics as one can score high marks in it.

Deep understanding of fundamentals:
	Right understanding of fundamentals is the key to GATE success, as we know GATE entrance is all about testing the fundamentals and questions are based on origin of the fundamentals. Involve yourself in this ongoing process of GATE preparation and the first stage should be placing yourself at the peak by getting your fundamentals right and then testing yourself.
	Needless to mention as you might have heard it many times before. But it is true - hard work pays off. If you want to succeed in GATE you have to practice, practice and practice. You have to love the efforts by self motivating which are the only lasting factors besides fear and reward. Just ignore the mistakes and errors as rightly said - If you're not making mistakes, then you're not doing anything. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the competitive drive could be achieved.

Standard of material, Testing scheme, Reporting, Faculty deliverance in classroom, student strength, past track record are few parameters you must consider before enrolling. The coaching model and mechanism should be flexible enough to let you know where you went wrong and smooth the friction of your efforts in cracking GATE.
